About

Svedala Woodworking, owned and operated by Mats Strahl is a small business that has been manufacturing custom woodwork since 1986.

Mats trained in the art of furniture and cabinet making in his home country Sweden, where quality craftsmanship is a way of life. He moved to Canada 1984 and settled with his wife in Chilliwack, B.C. After working there for 10 years, he moved his expanding business to its current location in Rosedale, B.C.

Since the business’s beginning, a vast array of projects have been produced in the woodwork shop. From custom kitchen cabinets, stereo/TV cabinets, office desks, open staircases, tables, and bookshelves, to a number of refinishing/restoration jobs as well. For a number of years Mats collaborated with a local pipe organ maker (another European craftsman). His job was to build the impressive cabinets that house the remarkable organ pipes. This job demands a refined skill set and meticulous accuracy. Mats has also worked with boat owners needing specialized teak restoration and even created one of a kind sea kayaks. No two projects are ever the same.

Svedala Woodworking uses only high quality materials such as domestic plywood and solid wood (no particle board or MDF). Traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon are used in furniture and other frame-work construction. Custom design, customized installation and custom finishes are always part of the end product.

Kitchen and entertainment centers built in Rosedale have been transported and installed all over B.C. From Dawson Creek in the north, to Vernon in the interior, Agassiz, Rosedale and Chilliwack in the Fraser Valley, and Surrey, White Rock and Vancouver on the coast.

Anyone interested in more information or a quote on a project is welcomed to email Mats at matsstrahl(at)hotmail.com or phone 604-794-7018 (evenings local time).

No job is too small or too unique.
